Melissa Heckman is a California-based abstract and semi-abstract artist. She enjoys painting with acrylics, and at times using gold leaf.
Melissa is primarily a self-taught artist often creating themes from nature, and spirituality, including waterfalls, flowers, butterflies, waves and yoga.
Melissa was born in North Carolina and grew up in Hawaii where she was inspired by the diversity and spirit of Aloha. She holds a B.A. degree in Sociology from the University of North Carolina, and a M.S.W. degree in Clinical Social Work from Tulane University. She works as a Hospice Medical Social Worker, and is the self-published author of Deep, Blue, Heavenly Seas… A Retreat for Your Soul. Melissa teaches life coaching workshops, has been a guest speaker, and enjoys time in nature, walks on the beach (especially when she is in Hawaii), spending time with dear friends and loved ones, gardening, picnics, making pupus (Hawaiian appetizers), and darling Shih-Tzus. On occasion she teaches gentle yoga for grief and loss in person or via Zoom. Melissa’s intention for her art is to impart peace, joy, and healing broken hearts from grief and loss. She very much appreciates it when her art connects with others.
Melissa is excited to share that her art will be for sale at the Papillion Coffee Shop in Lafayette, CA beginning July 5th, 2021. She is grateful to the lovely owners Betty and Sam. Feel free to stop in to check out the art and enjoy one of their many delicious coffee (or tea, Boba, smoothie) drinks.
